About

Taming the Chameleon is a collection of tips for using and configuring OpenSUSE 10.1. The weblog also documents the quest to make Linux my sole operating system by finding alternatives for Windows-only applications. While I have a long history of using Linux, I have always switched back and forth between Windows and Linux depending on the task at hand.
I was first exposed to Linux when I started university in 1998 and soon after I installed RedHat 5.1 on my home PC in a dual boot configuration with Windows NT. After several versions of RedHat, I moved to Mandrake, because it was more user-friendly and had a higher frequency of releases. My fling with Mandrake lasted until 10.0, when trouble getting the automatic updates to work caused me to install Fedora Core 4 instead. At the recommendation of a friend of mine, I finally moved to OpenSUSE 10.1 recently.
Professionally, I have a been developing software for a mixture of platforms - mostly Windows, but also SuSE Linux Professional and (a little) Solaris.
